Description
In this first lesson, we look at the sustained D power chord that sets the song soaring, while the top note is played in 8th notes.
Then, the main signature riff kicks in, a basic D pentatonic lick that is played along with the bass. The guitar then moves up the neck to the 12th fret, and plays a bluesy chordal riff to cap off this main motif riff.
Notice how the use of hammer-ons in this simple lick gives it a nice emphasis, and the "chunka-chunka" muted strums really drive the part; the gritty tone of the guitar makes this musical phrase powerful.
