Description

For this song you want to keep your tone as clean as possible, so that you get the maximum "punch" out of it. When tube amps are turned up they generally start to overdrive and "compress" the dynamics so that the volume is more or less the same whether you play harder or softer notes.

That works well for some things, but for a song like this you want your tone as clean and dynamic as you can get it. So keep your amp volume low and go the shortest possible distance from your guitar to your amp to get the best results.

Then it's nice to add a little bit of reverb, but be very careful with that and keep it subtle. Again, we're going for tight and rhythmic here, so adding a lot of ambience to your tone will work directly against that. I'll be using my Telecaster on the bridge pickup for this song, and I'll be running that through a modeled Fender Princeton amp. But you can play the parts on any gear if you just keep those overall goals in mind.
