Description

You can approach playing "Runaway Train" one of two ways in this tutorial. Guitar #1 is strumming simple open chords, from beginning to end. I am using an acoustic guitar for this, tuned to standard tuning. To play all the other guitar parts from the recording, I am using another acoustic as well as an electric guitar.

The electric guitar tone uses a slight amount of overdrive, as well as a washy plate-style reverb. You want to have your mix set over half way with your reverb so the tone is nice and ambient while still staying true to the notes in the chords. My overdrive is set about half way, with my pick up switch on the bridge pickup.

Whether playing with just one guitar or three, all of these will help you play through this great singer/songwriter hit.
