Description

The first part of our song that we'll learn is the verse. The verse of the song is usually the first thing you'll hear after the song's introduction. It's the frequently repeating main section that usually contains different words in each verse. It differs from the chorus because the chorus usually contains the same words each time it repeats.

Our verse is in the Key of G, but it centers around the E minor chord which is in the Key of G. It is important to learn the form of the verse. Here is the order of chords in our verse:

E- C

E- C

E- C

E- C D

One of the first things we do to these chords is add single note variations. We add the pinky to the E- chord to form an E-7 chord. We also refinger the C chord to form a Cadd9 chord. Don't worry if the theory behind these chords doesn't make sense at this moment. We will cover this later in the course.

Next, we add arpeggiation to our chords. We play our arpeggiation on the first eigth notes of the measure. We will use this pattern throughout the parts of this song, therefore this will become a riff for our song.
