Description

I’m using a semi-hollowbody guitar for this song, but any electric guitar is suitable. I’ve selected the bridge pickup for a clear, bright tone.

We are learning this song in the key of B, although the original recording is slightly flat of B. It is probable that the song was recorded in the key of A, and during the mix, the tape was sped up to increase the tempo and energy, thereby raising the pitch of the track closer to the key of B.

In order to play the song close to the recorded pitch, we’ll place a capo on the 2nd fret, and adapt all parts to the key of B. This allows GTR 1 to play the main boogie riffs in open position, as it was likely originally played in the key of A.

The guitar tones are unique to say the least. No amps were used, as the guitars were plugged straight into the mixing desk, with the inputs overloaded to create plenty of fuzzed out distortion.

To achieve this tone, use a fuzz pedal plugged into a clean amp. Even better, if you use a digital audio workstation (DAW), plug your guitar into your interface, and use audio plug-ins to replicate the original signal chain. You could use a fuzz pedal plug in by itself, or experiment with overloading EQ or channel strip plug-ins to get the desired effect.

Since we’re in standard tuning, I’m using regular light gauge strings that are 10-46 along with a heavy pick.
