There's a good chance you've heard people use terms like “the 4 chord†or “the 5 chordâ€, since this is one of the most common theoretical concepts used in real life playing situations. In fact, it's so common that it's often used by musicians who don't even really know the theory behind it.
So in this tutorial I'll explain and demonstrate the basic concept of I, IV and V-chords, and we'll play through a a few examples in different keys, so you can hear and feel the close relationship between these three chords. Learning theory on a guitar can be a little tricky, because the notes aren't laid out as clearly as they are on a piano for example, and I'm quite sure most of you don't know all the names of the notes on the fretboard yet. But you know enough, and I'll help you fill in the gaps along the way.
