Description

There are many layers of guitars in this recording. On the surface this is a simple pop rock song, but don't be fooled - the guitar parts are very precisely arranged and performed into a studio sculpted sound.

We'll focus in on 3 guitar layers. Guitar 1 is the main rhythm guitar that combines chord punches and a boogie diad pattern, while Guitars 2 and 3 are the harmonized lead guitars.
The tune starts off with a dramatic intro, ramping into the main groove of the song and another verse. There is a bridge section that opens up the arrangement and builds some tension leading back into the main groove.

There is also a killer solo section that is very well arranged and melodic. It uses bright clean country guitar tones to play plenty of major pentatonic lines and targeted chord tones.

The guitar parts in this arrangement are carefully crafted and well played, but at the end of the day, the guitar functions to support the singer telling a love story, playing for the song - first and foremost.

To play this tune using only one guitar, play Guitar 1 throughout, switching to Guitar 2 for the solo.

In the following lessons, we'll talk about power chords, diad boogie rhythms, suspended chords, and some harmonized lead concepts. We are in the key of E major, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 130 BPM.
