Description

A lot of players tend to overplay with their right hand. It's important for you to learn how to distinguish between when and when not to scratch the strings up and down. For instance, if the drums or rhythm section are already very busy, maybe you can let them be busy while you keep it simple. This is how we achieve contrast in our arrangements. Let the drummer show off, then when he comes back around leaves some space, you can do your scratching. You'll have to experiment so you can get a feel for when it is appropriate to do it either way.

Different musical situations will call for different ways of playing. And that's all part of what being a creative musician is about: being able to use your own good taste!

Check out this example where we try it both ways and see what you think.
