Can anyone on here do those squeals like he does?? I cant figure this out. I dont get what I'm doing wrong. All my pinch harmonics sound so pussy compared to his squeals. Is he using some kind of a pedal too? I figured when I got my ESP Kirk Hammett Sig maybe then my "squeals" would actually sound like real squeals, from the pickups or something... but nope. Still pussy-ass little pinch harmonics. Can someone fill me in?

He's just one of those guys that's really good at doing them. Theres a lot of different factors that go into the sound that your guitar makes when you play a note. Dime Bag did it really well too. Make sure your using vibrato to "carry your sound through". A lot of people don't realize how important vibrato is to pinch harmonics.

another problem you might be having is zakk is using the over drive on his amp (i know its a tube marshall i dont know which) and the overdrive of a pedal (i think its made by mxr). he also has active pickups (i think the kirk hammett sig has the same ones).

after all the frills the best thing to do is just practice them over and over in riff form till you get them.
They say the END is near, but I'm Tired of waiting.

He uses harmonics on the lower strings a lot.... and those with wide vibrato will give you the sound. Also experiment with hittinng the harmonics at different points over the pickups - you'll get different harmonics and some will be stronger than others.

Try hitting them at different places above the pickups, the closer to the neck you get, the more deeper you get. If you want that really fat n' deep harmonics Zakk does, focus on the E and A strings and at the 3rd and 5th frets untill you get better. Try learning Doomsday Jesus by BLS, its a good song to get your PH's up to par, awsome song as well.

I guess I'll have to dedicate more session time to strictly pinches. Another zakk question. I read on another forum that he solos out of key. I have never noticed this, but its quite possible he does. I dont have much for a trained ear, and his solos sound pretty good to me. But some of them do have that sound that they may be off, such as in Perry Mason. Could anyone verify?
