Well I can you that you will probably prefer tube amps.
Almost everyone does.
However solid state usually have a "tighter" sound. So would be better for metal.
Although there are plenty of amazing tube amps for metal.
For any other style I would go with a tube amp.

What style of music do you play ?
Do you play gigs or just at home ?
How much money do you want to spend on an amp ?
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.
