Layering Guitar Parts

Description

Whenever you're layering guitar multiple guitar parts, the whole goal is for the different parts to compliment each other and not get in the way or overlap too much. This obviously has a lot to do with the parts you choose to play, and we'll get into all that later, but it also has a lot to do with the tones and sounds you choose to use. Too much gain, delay, reverb, and other crazy effects tend to make things very messy and harder to control. That doesn't mean you can't ever use these effects when you're playing with other guitars, but you just have to be very careful with it.

For this tutorial we're going to keep the tone very simple with just a basic overdrive and a little bit of reverb. Eventually it can work really well to use different guitars for different parts, and if you don't have multiple instruments you can make it sound different by using different pickups and approaches.

But as always, it's important to learn the basic skill before you start messing with the gear! If you can make two guitar parts compliment each other without changing the tone for one of them, it'll sound even greater when you do. For that reason I'll stay on my Telly for all the guitar parts in this tutorial!
