Often when I am discussing song structure with students I am talking about repetition and similarities. A classic verse structure might be 4 lines, each containing 4 bars.

This is an unusual song that plays around with time, which is partly what makes it interesting to listen to and fun to play. All of the variations in time occur while we're playing the E major chord.

There are 3 verses, and each of them contains subtle differences. We're about to look at each one in detail, in the following lessons. Note that each verse begins and ends the same way. The sneaky stuff is all in between.
