The Tony Rice Style: Modern Bluegrass Master

Traditional bluegrass guitarists have always walked into chords with bass notes that are directly on the beat. It's a staple of the style. Tony Rice, however, gave the style a real shot in the arm with complex syncopation in his bass lines.

To compensate for the crazy accents provided in his rhythm, Rice adds chromaticism in this line. Try adding chromaticism in any of your walking lines to get the sound in your ear.

Finally, try listening to this example many times before playing it. Rhythm is the most difficult part of any style and hearing the rhythm goes a long way in preventing any problems you might experience with this example.
