Guitar Glossary: Slide (technique)

Slide (technique)

A change between two notes by sliding further up or down the string. This is done while the string is ringing out so the passing notes can be heard. As the finger passes over the fret marker, it changes the amount of the string that is vibrating, thus causing the pitch to rise or fall. Slides can be incorporated into riffs, melodies and solos.
