Guitar Glossary: Scale length

Scale length

The vibrating length of the string. This is from the nut to the bridge of the guitar, and is the most effective way to determine the size of a guitar. Normal guitars are around 24 and 3/4" but children's guitars can be made shorter, usually three-quarters or half the length.
