Guitar Glossary: Saddle

Saddle

The grooves which support the strings on the bridge. On electric guitars, they are often metallic cuboids which can be moved backwards and forwards individually. On acoustics the strip of white material in the bridge serves as a saddle. They are the bottom end of the vibrating portion of the strings. The height of the saddles is the major contributor to action.
