Pickup (single coil)

A pickup containing one magnetic coil. These are susceptible to humming. These pickups were the original ones included on electric guitars, and produced a brighter, thinner tone. Some guitarists prefer the sound of single coils, but they've generally been made obsolete by humbuckers.
