Interval (compound)

An interval of more than a single octave. For example, a ninth interval is compound, but is essentially equivalent to a second. There are only seven notes into most scales, so subtracting seven from any interval higher to it will tell you the familiar interval. For example, an eleventh interval is really a fourth.
