Guitar Glossary: Bolt-on neck

Bolt-on neck

A neck which is connected the guitar body through a bolt. They can be seen on the back of the guitar. This means that the instrument is made of two distinct parts, and this effects the sound of the instrument. Generally, it's thought that bolt-on necks produce a more snappy, biting sound and set neck or neck through body style guitars produce a warmer, more full tone.
